by Darlene Walden The Cornerstone Parent Training last spring was a success! We had two sessions. At our first session, parents learned the reading strategies of connecting, picturing, noticing, wondering, guessing/predicting, and figuring out. Nancy Boyles modeled how these strategies are used during read aloud. Parents then read a book using the different strategies. They then used sticky notes to indicate when they were using a strategy and then they shared what strategies were used and why. At the second session, our parents read to students from the two Cornerstone classrooms. Parents and children alike were able to experience not only the joy of reading together but most importantly how to read for meaning! |
