The Cornerstone Regional Meetings will be held:

January 27-29	Southern Regional Meeting (for southern Cornerstone schools) hosted in Talladega.
February 10-12	Northern Regional Meeting (for northern Cornerstone schools) hosted in Philadelphia.

Cornerstone Coaches will travel to England for observations and exchange with British colleagues: February 23, 2002 – March 3, 2002 (Actual Cornerstone work begins on Sunday, February 24, and ends on Friday, March 1) The weekend travel dates allow for extended tourism in the country at either end of the work dates, if you wish.

STUDENT ASSESSMENTS: Where Do We Go From Here?

With all the student testing and the immense amount of information you are gathering, we want to assure you that this information is directly relevant to your classroom and future decisions. It will form the basis for important conversations about student work.

Coaches are encouraged to turn the assessment gathering process into a professional learning opportunity for as many teachers as possible. All will benefit from observing the administration and learning from the scoring processes. Here are some suggestions:

• Invite colleagues to observe as instruments are administered, but ask that they agree to sit in as you score and discuss what you both learned about the child in the process.
• Hold before or after school study groups to talk about the data that has been gathered. What does it suggest for instruction? Does the data suggest any strengths or areas of weakness for all the students sampled?
• Get together with the principal, district strategy manager and critical friend to analyze findings. What does the data suggest as a set of goals for children and teachers?
