Early this school year, my co-teacher Julie and I decided that we wanted our
2nd graders to explore the community around our school. We developed the Dixwell Avenue Scavenger Hunt so that the children and their families would work together and at the same time become acquainted with the many wonderful community resources that surround us.

Julie and I had a great time driving up and down Dixwell Avenue snapping pictures! We learned a lot about what the neighborhood has to offer and were able to understand and appreciate much better what our kids are experiencing as they grow up in New Haven.

The kids also had a wonderful time exploring Dixwell Avenue with their families. They proudly brought in their artifacts from various establishments, which are displayed outside of our classroom.
