Poetry:
School Tradition (Professional
Development—Freedman Elementary School, Springfield, MA)
by Rahshene Davis and Becky McKay Cornerstone Freedman Elementary School embraced the genre of poetry three years ago as part of their school tradition. Traditions make any school community unique and special. In April (National Poetry Month), Freedman took a cue from the Cornerstone Winter Conference and its science theme and wed the two to emphasize poetry through science themes. As a staff wanting to keep their own teaching current and on the cutting edge, they spent quality time together building a knowledge base and reading and writing together. Join them in that experience!
