The
Classroom Library
Establishing a classroom library is important work that must be done over time if it is to support independent learning. Significant effort goes into collecting and organizing a variety of texts that will effectively serve the diverse learners that enter a classroom. Investigating the topic of setting up the classroom library has been part of the environmental work in all of the schools new to Cornerstone this year. I offer the power point presentation we used as part of this edition of the May newsletter. Those who were part of this work might find it useful to revisit the ideas and images. Others might enjoy looking at some of the suggested texts and supplies that could help make a classroom library relevant, efficient, and comfortable for your students. Some of you may be surprised to see your own classroom represented in the photos! If you haven’t looked at the classroom library at your school as a topic during professional development, this presentation can be used with the accompanying survey. The survey is designed for teachers to take inventory of their texts and share their wish list for additional support. Enjoy!
